Left to right: Booker T. Washington, Booker T. Washington Jr., E. Davidson Washington, 1906. In 1902 Johnston traveled to Tuskegee, Alabama, to photograph the Tuskegee Institute established by Booker T. Washington in 1881. Daniel and Smock related the dramatic story of Johnston’s first trip to Alabama and her encounter with racism (Daniel and Smock, 115). This photo is from her second trip to Tuskegee.
